Planning is Everything-Part 3

Updated: 2 days ago

I haven't had much time to work on the print this week. I'm in a framing frenzy getting ready for two art festivals and two gallery visits that will happen between now and July 20th.

That being said, I finally got some ink on the paper🎉. I've included photos of the block and the paper, so you can see what I have so far.

One question people ask concerns the order in which I print the colors. Printmaking texts will say always start with the lightest color, but that's usually not how I work. I look at my drawing and think about what will make carving the easiest. In this case, I printed the blue first because it is in the foreground. It is easier to cut the foreground objects out rather than try to cut background around it. I will also cut some light green foliage at the upper portion of the image.

Update:

I just finished printing the second color. Here is a short video showing my progress. I will be cutting out the dark green parts of the image next. I use a bamboo baren to press the ink.

I'm printing dark green ink on top of the blue and light green
